Thursday evening there was a raid by authorities after members of the comunity have complained about the illegal gambling that was taking place at the Fremont Skill Games.
The clerk who was working at the time, John M. Cirelli Jr., was arrested.
The place of business was only open for a couple of months, but police say their received tips from the Fremont City Council that illegal gambling was taking place. Poker machines were seized in the raid, along with $3,000 in cash and some furnishings.
Local police have trying to eliminate these gambling machines. While some businesses simply open a full gambling hall, other operations are not as easy to detect. The machines are being placed in bars and convenience stores.
According to Fremont police Detective Sean O’Connell, the machines at Fremont Skill Games would print out tickets to people who won. The clerk would then take those tickets and pay the customer the cash amount that was won.
